Compute To File Dialog

Help for the COMPUTE TO FILE PANEL
*****************************************
When the "Compute image to file ..." menu item is selected from the "Windows"
Menu in a Work Window, two Panels appear in succession:
a) a "File Selection" Window opens to allow the user to enter the file
name to be used in computing this image directly (row by row) to disk;
b) the "Compute to File" Panel opens to give the user control over the
compute to file process. The functions of this Panel are explained below.
" File: " Display String
-------------------
Displays the selected file pathname. Since it is left justified, if it
appears truncated and you need to see the full pathname, make the
"Compute to File" Box wider (if your pathname is longer than the full
screen width, you will have to open a shell or WorkSpace window to
view it).
[ Resolution = ] Menu Selection Button
----------------------------------
This Menu has three selections:
[ 2 * ] - creates a 2K x 2K image;
[ 4 * ] - creates a 4K x 4K image;
[ 8 * ] - creates a 8K x 8K image.
[ Compute ] Button
-----------------
Using the currently selected value in the Resolution Button Menu, begin
computing the 2K x 2K, 4K x 4K or 8K x 8K image directly to the named
disk file as an SGI RGB image in RLE (run length compressed) format. In
order not to interfere with the image computation, DO NOT CHANGE THE
IMAGE COLORS OF ANY OTHER IMAGE and DO NOT INVOKE the system
gamma routine! The values sent to the file depend upon the current
settings of the gamma table and the settings of the Byte/gun mapping
in the Color Dialog Box. Thus, to get the Oversized image to be in the
colors that you intend, first set the colors correctly for a smaller
version (1/4, 1/2 or full screen, for example) of the same image and
then invoke the "Compute image to file ..." command.
When the image has finished "Computing to File", a "Load from File"
Panel is opened to notify you that the computation is finished and to
give you the option of down loading the computed image for viewing.
An explanation of the "Load from File" panel is found by using its
"Help" Button.
[ Cancel ] Button
---------------
Exit this Panel and take NO steps towards computing to file.
